About the Owner and Principal Investigator

Robert McDaniels

Mr. McDaniels has more than 12 years of experience in metallurgical and materials science analysis.  He has a B.S. degree in Engineering Science, and an M.S. degree in Material Science and Engineering, both from the University of Tennessee.  He is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the same institution.  He has authored or co-authored a dozen papers over a wide spectrum of materials science topics, including mechanical behavior of advanced materials, lifetime modeling of materials, and alloy development.  While in graduate school, he studied laser applied ceramic coatings on AISI 4340 and the high temperature fatigue behavior of superalloys such as Haynes HR-120 and C-2000.  In his five and an half year tenure at VEXTEC, he conducted research and development on aerospace alloys such as Aluminum Alloy 7075, Superalloy IN 718, and Ti-6Al-4V.  He also studied ferrous alloys such as cast irons, and low-alloy steels, including AISI 4340 and AISI 9310.  He also studied failure mechanisms of printed circuit boards (PCB) and Magnesium alloy ZE41A.  He is a member of ASM international and ASTM.  He serves on both the Fatigue and Fracture Committee and the Metallography Committee of ASTM.
